Cadron Creek literature-based unit studies work with a different approach than Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings, but will appeal to people looking for other outside-the-box literature programs. These programs are unit studies based great works of literature, but they contain suggested explorations and assignments in other subject areas such as history, science, home economics, art, and Bible. Though they are designed to be the main course of study for an academic year, you as the instructor can pick and choose the activities you feel that are appropriate for your home and feel free to substitute with other subject texts. Unlike, Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings which is largely self-contained and requires almost no outside sources or research, unit studies, such as these, typically suggest resources that you must gather yourself. However many of these can be found online or at the library if you plan ahead. Unit studies generally require more teacher-time as well, but this time can be offset by the fact that you are often covering more than one subject area in the course of instruction.
